What is your opinion about the bad effects of Computer Games to education?
pls state the bad effects of computer games to education.
Anything in excess can be bad for education–even studying. Various studies have shown beneficial effects of occasional video games to coordination. Other studies have shown that while studying for a test it is good to take a break every 20 minutes or so to allow the brain to freely process the new information. Sure, if you allow yourself to watch television and play computer games for hours every day, it is not good for your creative thinking and real-life problem solving skills. Children especially need the diversity of several different types of learning and interacting.

Distance Learning Technologies in Education $40 “Distance learning can defined as learning where the instructor and the students are in physically separate locations. The various technologies used in distance learning can be roughly divided into four categories: print, audio, computer and video. The explosion of the internet, coupled with advances in educational software, has fuelled distance learning and online education throughout the world. Not only is distance learning convenient, it is also effective. Several research studies have found that distance learning is equally or more effective than traditional instruction when the method and technologies used are appropriate to the instructional tasks, when there is student-to-student interaction, and when there is timely teacher-to-student feedback. This book is intended for educators who are interested in implementing distance learning technologies. It provides an overview of the advantages and characteristics of the various technologies now being used to teach learners.” |

Information Assurance and Computer Security $144 Today’s society can no longer function without information technology. Essential infrastructure including the transportation system, banking, the entertainment industry, the healthcare system, government, the military and the education system can no longer survive without modern technology. This increasing dependence on information technology creates new opportunities for the benefit of society. However, it also opens an avenue that can be exploited for illicit purposes. The stakes are high and many attacks go undetected or unreported. In addition to losses such as data or other forms of intellectual property, financial theft or the shut down of infrastructure, computer security attacks that target critical infrastructure such as nuclear power plants have the potential to cause human casualties on a massive and unprecedented scale. This book provides a discussion on a wide variety of viewpoints on some of the main challenges facing secure systems. This book will therefore be of major interest to all researchers in academia or industry with an interest in computer security. It is also relevant to graduate and advanced level undergraduate students who may want to explore the latest developments in the area of computer and information security. |

Design Knowing and Learning: Cognition in Design Education $76 Wide aspects of a university education address design: the conceptualization, planning and implementation of man-made artifacts. All areas of engineering, parts of computer science and of course architecture and industrial design all claim to teach design. Yet the education of design tends ot follow tacit practices, without explicit assumptions, goals and processes. This book is premised on the belief that design education based on a cognitive science approach can lead to significant improvements in the effectiveness of university design courses and to the future capabilities of practicing designers. This applies to all professional areas of design. The book grew out of publications and a workshop focusing on design education. This volume attempts to outline a framework upon which new efforts in design education might be based. The book includes chapters dealing with six broad aspects of the study of design education: • Methodologies for undertaking studies of design learning • Longitudinal assessment of design learning • Methods and cases for assessing beginners, experts and special populations • Studies of important component processes • Structure of design knowledge • Design cognition in the classroom |

EDUCATION, AN $16.95 A suburban London teen finds her traditional education replaced by something slightly more sinister when an older, more worldly suitor sweeps her off of her feet while placing her future in jeopardy. London, 1961: 16-year-old Jenny (Carey Mulligan) is smart, attractive, and eager to start her adult life. She’s grown tired of the familiar adolescent routine, so when urbane newcomer David (Peter Sarsgaard) appears in town, Jenny senses a rare opportunity to shake things up a bit. Quickly falling under David’s spell, the impressionable Jenny begins accompanying her newfound beau to classical concerts, art auctions, crowded pubs, and dinners that stretch into the small hours of the night. But Jenny is brighter than most kids her age, and her parents always dreamt of getting their exceptional daughter into Oxford. These days it seems like she’s headed in a different direction — will David ultimately be her undoing, or the person who helps her finally realize her true potential? ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi |
